When you buy a French baguette and don't plan on consuming it, don't worry. There is a great way to preserve its freshness and enjoy it weeks or even months later. Yes! a store bought baguette can be frozen and used later.
In my other post, I have talked about how to freeze homemade bread after slicing it, but today I want to talk about freezing an entire baguette without slicing.
How to freeze store bought baguette?
There is no real prep work involved in freezing a store bought baguette. Just ensure that it is wrapped or packaged well without any openings.
Date: Put the date on the bread on the day you freeze it so you know how long it has been in the freezer for.
Freeze: Place the packed baguette as is in the freezer.
If you are unable to use the entire baguette later, it is recommended to slice it or cut it into pieces. You can then place the slices in the same bag or in Ziplock bags.
Storage choices
Store bought bag: the entire baguette can be frozen as is in the bag it come in.
Ziplock bag: if you plan on slicing the baguette then you can freeze it in the bag it came in or in ziplock bags, bread bags, or silicone bags.
How to defrost a baguette?
To defrost a baguette, take it out of the packaging and place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Bake: preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the frozen baguette for about 20 minutes.
Keep warm setting: turn the oven's keep warm setting on and place the baguette for about 30-40 minutes.
Once you thaw the baguette, it can be used to make toast, sandwiches, or your favorite recipes. Any leftover bread can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days in a bread box or an air tight container.

A French baguette can be frozen for up to 3 months.
