Chocolate dipped strawberries are a great treat for any occasion. They are perfect to satisfy your sweet tooth. And you will be glad to know that you can make them and freeze them to enjoy later. So when you go strawberry picking or have a ton of strawberries from your garden or buy them in bulk at grocery store, do give it a try to freeze chocolate dipped strawberries.
Preparation
Choose: it is best to choose ripe strawberries which are bright in color. You want to avoid the ones which are old and shrinking.
Clean: clean the strawberries thoroughly with water to get rid of any dirt and pat dry them.
Remove head: chop the greens off from the strawberries before dipping into melted chocolate. This is a must do if you plan to freeze. If you plan to use them immediately then you can skip this step.
Dip in chocolate: dip the strawberries in your melted dark or milk chocolate. Let them set on a parchment paper for 15-20 minutes until the chocolate hardens.
Freezing
- Freeze: Once the chocolate dipped strawberries have hardened, place them in a freezer in a tray lined with parchment paper for 3-4 hours.
- Package: transfer the frozen chocolate dipped strawberries in a container. Place parchment paper in between layers. Cover the top layer with parchment paper and then close the lid.
- Label: Label the contents of the container with "chocolate dipped strawberries" along with date. Labeling the containers is very helpful as you don't have to open the containers to figure out what is inside it.
Storage Choices
- Ziplock bags: These are one of the most common and cost-effective option. Remove as much air as possible from the ziplock bags. Smaller size bags are perfect for individual portions.
- Vacuum sealing: It prevents food against freezer burn and extends storage life.
- Reusable containers: Rubbermaid, Lenox, Snapware, Tupperware are good choices for reusable containers. They are environment friendly choices than one-time use options.
Thawing instructions
- Room temperature: Take out as many of frozen strawberries you need and allow it to come to room temperature. This may take for 20-30 minutes.
Duration
Chocolate dipped strawberries can be stored for up to 3 months. It is best to use them within a month, the longer you store them it can get ice crystals on top from freezing.
