When you make cupcakes at home and end up having a lot of buttercream frosting, there is no need to stress. You can easily store it in the freezer and enjoy it months later.

Preparation
Whether you have leftover frosting or planning ahead of time and making it for later use, you can follow these steps to freeze it.
Portion: If you have a small batch there is no need to portion it. However, for larger batches, it is best to divide it in 12 oz. or 16 oz. portions.
Package: Use freezer safe containers or ziplock bags and remove as much air as possible.
Label: Mark the container or ziplock bags with the date, quantity (12 oz or 16 oz), and contents (buttercream frosting). This helps a lot so that you know what is inside the container in the freezer and don't have to keep opening containers to find something.
