How to freeze cupcakes with frosting
- Store bought: If you are freezing an unopened pack of store bought frosted cupcakes then ensure to double wrap it in ziplock bags or a freezer-safe container. This will prevent condensation to form on the cupcakes frosting.
- Homemade cupcakes: It is very important to double wrap the cupcakes. First place the cupcakes in a freezer safe container like Rubbermaid, Pyrex, or Snapware. Then cover it with a cling wrap gently. Finally cover it with a lid.
If you do not cover the cupcakes with a cling wrap, liquid droplets will form on the frosting which will freeze to small crystals. When you thaw the cupcakes, it will turn into water droplets. So to avoid it, it is best to have a double layer covering.
3. Label: Label the container with the date and type of cupcake eg. "vanilla cupcakes, date" or "chocolate cupcakes, date".
